My kids say that this is an イソヒヨドリ or blue rock thrush. :o)
Amazing! I had "thrushes" on the brain after watching the 1977(?) animated motion picture "The Hobbit," so I quickly googled "thrush" before shutting down the computer last night. The first bird I saw there didn't resemble this one, though, so I gave up and went to bed.
